Meet Dr. Abouali

Dr. Jihad Abouali is a leading Orthopaedic Surgeon specializing in Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy. He earned his Doctor of Medicine and completed his residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at McMaster University. He completed his Fellowship in Sports Medicine at the University of Toronto.

Dr. Abouali is a member of the Division of Orthopaedic Surgery at Michael Garron Hospital in Toronto. He also holds memberships with The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, The Canadian Orthopaedic Association, and the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. He has been invited to present his cutting-edge sports medicine research at numerous national and international conferences. As an Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto and Assistant Clinical Professor at McMaster University, he trains resident physicians and orthopedic surgeons of the future.

He was appointed the role of Lead Medical Physician at the Toronto 2015 PanAm Games, and Head Orthopaedic Surgeon at the 2022 Ontario Games. He is the current Head Physician for the Scarborough Shooting Stars basketball team, and has acted as the team Orthopaedic Surgeon for the Toronto Argonauts and Toronto FC, and consulted with several other organizations including Canada Basketball senior men’s national team.

His practice involves treating recreational, amateur and professional athletes with upper and lower extremity injuries, with a special interest in arthroscopic knee, hip, ankle and shoulder surgery as well as regenerative medicine. He performs over 200 anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstructions a year, making him one of the highest volume ACL surgeons in Canada.
